The Scale tool lets you measure the distance between any two points in the feet/inches and add them as markups.
Drawings are created with different scales. You first need to calibrate the ruler individually for each drawing. Once calibrated, you can use the ruler to measure any unknown distances on the drawing and set it as a markup. The calibration is a one-time process and is saved when done for the first time for a drawing. You can use the ruler to make distance markups on the drawing at any time after that without needing to calibrate it again.
Also, you can move a line markup from one location to a different location on the drawing. This is useful, for example, to measure the distance between two points covered by a certain portion of the building and mark the same distance in a different location in the drawing.
The calibration also auto-applies to measure areas using the square/rectangle, circle/ellipse, and triangle shape tools. See Mark areas with shapes and cloud for more details.
- Calibrate the ruler
- Add a length markup
Calibrate the ruler
- Open the plan drawing
- Identify a location on the drawing with known dimensions, for example, a length marking between two points in the drawing. An example is shown below:
- Touch the 'Scale' tool to select it
- Touch the spot on the drawing to place the ruler line
- Long press an end to reveal the handles at the ends
- Drag the handles at the ends of the line to draw a line from one end to the other end of the length of the known dimension.
- Tap 'Set' at the middle of the line to open the options
- Choose 'Calibration' from the options
- Enter the known dimension in feet/inches, for example, 26'00"
- Tap 'OK'
The scale is calibrated, and the line now shows the entered value.
The calibration is saved as a draft layer. It will save permanently on publishing the markup. See Publish markups for more details;
Add a length markup
Prerequisite: The scale tool should have been calibrated before adding a length markup. If not, follow the steps explained above.
- Open the plan
- Touch the 'Scale' tool to select it
- Touch the spot on the drawing to place the ruler line
- Long touch any one end of the line to reveal the handles at the ends.
- Use the handles at the ends of the line to draw a line from the starting point to the end of the length you want to markup.
The line shows the distance in feet/inches as calibrated.
- Repeat the process to add more length markups
To change the color and stroke width of the ruler line
- Long touch any one end of the line to select it.
- Select the 'Stroke' tool and set the color and stroke width
The markup element adds as a layer to the 'Draft' group. It is shown in the layer editor on the left.
- Open the layer editor by touching the icon
- Use the icon to show or hide the layer
- Tap the ellipses button to open the edit options.
- Select 'Delete' to remove an element added by mistake
- Go to the next tool if you want to add more markup elements.
- Once you are done with the markup elements, save the layer group as markup. See Publish markups for more guidance.
