Clone Rows and WBS branches

Modified on Wed, 30 Oct at 2:30 AM

The Cut, Copy, and Paste options at the top left enable you to replicate line items within the schedule grid efficiently. This feature is especially useful for duplicating tasks and placing them in different sections of the grid. For instance, when similar tasks are required across multiple levels of a structure, you can create the tasks for one level, clone them for the others, and then modify the timelines and dependencies of the cloned tasks as needed. This streamlines the process of managing repetitive tasks and ensures consistency across different project stages.

You can:

  • Relocate a row or a set of rows to a different location in the grid
  • Clone a row or a set of rows
  • Clone an entire branch of the WBS hierarchy

To clone items

  • Ensure that you are in the grid view of the project schedule. If not in the grid view:
    • Click the app launcher  , then select 'Schedule'
    • Click 'Planner' on the top and select 'Grid' on the left.
  • Expand the WBS hierarchy to the desired level

Use the links below to jump to the task you need help with:

Move a row

  • Select the row(s) to be moved by clicking the serial number
  • Use the 'Ctrl' or 'Shift' key on your keyboard to select multiple items at once
  • Click the cut icon at the top-left
  • Select the row below which you want to place the row/rows
  • Click the paste icon

The item moves to the set position.

Clone a row or a set of rows

  • Select the row below which you want to clones
  • Click the paste icon at the top-left, alternatively, press 'Ctrl' + V on your keyboard
  • To place the items multiple times, paste the rows repeatedly

The rows get duplicated as root-level items.

  • Right-click on the row and use the left and right indent buttons to set up their hierarchy levels

Clone a branch of hierarchy

  • Expand the WBS hierarchy to the desired level
  • Select the parent-level item to clone that branch with all its children and grandchildren
  • Click the 'Copy Hierarchy' iconat the top
  • Select a row below which the branch is to be cloned, at the same level
  • Click the paste icon at the top-left, alternatively, press 'Ctrl' + V on your keyboard

The branch gets duplicated below the selected row, with its top-level parent item at the same level as the selected row. All the dependencies of the last level items are also replcated from the source branch.

  • Dependencies to the external branches are retained in the clones
  • Dependencies within the same branch are updated to the items in the clone as applicable
